I think sometimes we think God is a genie in a bottle. We can just stand there and make wishes/demands and He is just going to do it for us. Or that we can wave His word around like a magic wand. That would make him more of a slave than a Master and we know that is not the way it works. We often desire change, and we talk about it, but we don’t always do anything about it. We sit and scream at God and want Him to do what we are asking, but we aren’t willing to cooperate with Him. That is not the way things work. He won’t force His will and ways on us. If we are asking God to deliver us from being addicted to sugar but we are stopping at the donut shop every morning and getting 3 or 4 donuts and eating them, that’s just not going to work. We need to stop feeding what we are trying to get delivered from. We have to put feet to our words. We have to make conscious decisions and put forth effort. We might be hurting and want God to take away that hurt, but we are hanging onto it for dear life. We have to learn to let things go. We need to quit trying to control everything. I am the world’s worst sometimes. I have often struggled with letting other people do things because I know how I want them done and it is easier to just do it myself so they get done “right”. All that does is add stress and pressure. If I want to have real change in my life, I have got to learn to relinquish control to Him. Continuing to wake up every single day and let myself feel like a victim isn’t getting me any closer to being a victor. And God has called us all to walk a victorious life– not a defeated one.
