I am not sure how many of you mamas and daddies out there are like me and get to where you avoid going in your child’s room because of the hot mess of toys everywhere. Or when you finally brave it, you step all over Lego’s and other tiny toys. Ouch!
I have tried so many different things when it comes to organization and nothing has ever worked.
Maybe your child does this without problem, ours never wants to go clean it up. The struggle is always very real with that.
All of it can be a bit frustrating.
The other day he looked straight at me and said, “Mama, you’re a superhero.” My hear literally melted inside and I am pretty sure I smiled for the rest of the day because he was totally serious. So with that being said….
Never fear; help is here!
I think I found a pretty good solution to this problem with our new 12 bin organizer from Delta Children.
In a matter of maybe an hour, we took his toys from this:
So much better!!!
The floor is completely clean. All of his toys are put into bins with the Lego’s on bottom for easier access. He can see them all to know what he has to play with, and my toes are thanking me. It has cut down on stress and anxiety and saved a few hairs on my head too.
I will say that we go through his toys every few months and choose some to donate unless they are incredibly broken and those go in the trash. We are trying to teach him to give to others, but to give nice things. If it isn’t in a condition I would want him to get it in, I won’t give it to someone else. I am not okay with giving junk to others.
We will get a trash bag (okay, I get a trash bag) and go sit and pull every single toy out. It will be examined and put into the trash or donate piles until we have gotten rid of everything he no longer plays with. I will be honest and say there are probably some things in the bins he doesn’t play with, but they are also things that had gotten lost under his bed or in that big red tote that was for stuffed animals and such so now that he can see them it will be easier to determine if he will play with them.
There are times when if he has been told over and over to clean up his room that he is handed a trash bag and told to put things in it. We do have a rule that once it enters the bag, it does not come back out. That is not to say that I don’t go through it before I take it to donate it and pull things out that I know he still uses.
If he still doesn’t do it, then I go take over and he doesn’t really like that because we all know that us parents do a much better job of “spring cleaning” than kids do.
And there have been times we have taken every single toy out of his room and he has earned them back. We want him to learn that we should take care of what we have been blessed with. We don’t break it 5 minutes after getting it expecting that parents will just go buy us another one or throw everything in the floor because we can. We take care of what we have been given.
This 12 bin organizer is truly a great product. It was easy to put together and should last us for years. It comes in a few different colors and you can also get it in a 9 bin if that works better for your space.
If you have been looking for a way to get your kids’ toys organized, this is it. Go get you one and save your sanity.
